“Alive HERO”

Today is a far more direct article tan normal, I’ll just be responding to LegendaryChevralier’s comment on the recent Dragon Podcast:

Also can you give me some more infomation on that “alive hero” deck you were talking about? It seems really interesting and surprisingly similar to what I’ve been contemplating.

I’ll just be giving a little insight into the deck from my perspective as well as a pretty standard (as far as I know) decklist for the deck in Japan at the time being.

First off I’d just like to say, none of my opinions on this are 100% definitive since I am in no way an expert at the deck and it’s not always easy to decipher the purposes a deck from Japan and there totally separate meta or even just from a decklist in general. With that in mind for this article I’ll first show a decklist. This is a decklist I got off Shriek that placed well in a large tournament:

  • 1 Elemental HERO Stratos
  • 3 Elemental HERO Bubbleman
  • 1 Elemental HERO Neos Alius
  • 1 Blackwing –  Zephyros the Elite

SPELLS: (27)

  • 3 E – Emergency Call
  • 3 The Warrior Returning Alive
  • 3 A Hero Lives
  • 3 Miracle Fusion
  • 3 Mystical Space Typhoon
  • 3 Night Beam
  • 2 Instant Fusion
  • 2 Pot of Duality
  • 1 Heavy Storm
  • 1 Monster Reborn
  • 1 Reinforcements of the Army
  • 1 Book of Moon
  • 1 Future Fusion

TRAPS: (7)

  • 2 Compulsory Evacuation Device
  • 2 Torrential Tribute
  • 2 Phoenix Wing Wind Blast
  • 1 Solemn Judgement

  • 1 Karbonala Warrior
  • 1 Elemental HERO Gaia
  • 1 Elemental HERO Absolute Zero
  • 1 Elemental HERO The Shining
  • 1 Elemental HERO Escuridao
  • 1 Steelswarm Roach
  • 1 Evilswarm Ouroboros
  • 1 No. 39 Utopia
  • 1 No. C39 Utopia Ray
  • 1 Blade Armor Ninja
  • 1  Maestroke the Symphony Djinn
  • 1 Daigusto Emeral
  • 1 No. 16 Shock Ruler
  • 1 Heroic Champion Excalibur
  • 1 Lavalval Chain

For the most part, if you’ve read my previous articles, a lot of these cards should be familiar to you. The only ones that you may not know are some of the XYZ monsters in the extra deck. I’ll attempt to clear those up a bit in this paragraph. Evilswarm Ouroboros and Shock Ruler  are both 3 monster Rank 4’s, Ouroboros is a powerful offensive monster and Shock Ruler is a powerful lockdown monster. Elemental HERO Escuridao is a fusion of an Elemental HERO and a Dark monster, his only purpose in the deck is for Future Fusion so his effect is unimportant.  Heroic Champion Excalibur is a rank 4 that requires 2 warriors, it can detach all its material to double its attack until your opponent’s next end phase. (it has 2000 ATK 2000 DEF) Those four are all OCG exclusives at the moment. Karbonala Warrior is a level 4 Warrior Fusion monster with no effect, so it’s his Instant Fusion target.

The deck works in a very similar way to Bubble Beat that has gotten very popular in America as of late except this deck takes it to the furthest extent. Rather than having the option of making Rank 4’s and doing random OTKs this deck can only do that. The deck maxes out on Bubbleman as well as recursion for it (3 The Warrior Returning Alive, a normal spell that adds a Warrior monster from your graveyard to your hand) so that it can make pretty much a huge mess of Rank 4 XYZ monsters in one turn. It has all the old plays of Bubble Beat like the Stratos Reborn combo except in this deck there’s a pluthera of other ways to pull off combos as well as a whole bunch of awesome XYZ to be summoning.

An example of another combo similar to the Stratos and Monster Reborn combo (that achieves the same result) is A Hero Lives + The Warrior Returning Alive. With this combo you can set all your cards then activate A Hero Lives, which can special summon a Level 4 HERO monster from your deck while you control no monsters by paying half your life  points, and use it summon a Stratos. That Stratos can add a Bubbleman to hand. Special the Bubbleman and XYZ for Blade Armor Ninja and detach the Stratos. Then activate The Warrior Returning Alive adding Stratos back, then summon it again (since you haven’t normal summoned yet) and add Bubbleman again. Then use that Bubbleman and Stratos to XYZ again for likely Heroic Champion Excalibur (since the deck only runs 1 Blade Armor Ninja) and detatch all its material for so it has 4k. That makes an OTK.

Since the deck so easily recurs and searches Bubbleman it’s very easily possible to make triple Rank 4 monster such as Evilswarm Ouroboros. Ouroboros can detach a material once while it’s on the field to return a card your opponent controls to the hand making for some simple problem solving. Some of the other XYZ monsters have interesting interactions as well. Both Daigusto Emeral and Lavalval Chain essential can give out another free rank 4 beside them. Emeral can be used to recur the 1 copy of Neo Alius. Lavalval Chain can pitch the Zephyros to the grave to make combos with Bubbleman since you can special Bubbleman then bounce it for Zephyros and then Special Bubbleman again.

The deck also noticeably runs a mass of Spell and Trap hate. It’s running 3 MST along with 3 of the new Night Beam, which is essentially just another copy of MST for this deck (making an artificial 6 MSTs), that along with Heavy Storm. The deck also sports some Phoenix Wing Wind Blast to get extra monsters out of hand so Bubbleman is always live as well as some extremely versatile pinpoint removal and pseudo stalling due the card being bounced to the top of the deck. With all that in mind its easy to see that the deck can have a fairly free rain over the field with its XYZ plays bar Effect Veiler and D.D. Crow. The deck can basically play around Veiler easily though using cards like Compulsory Evac or Phoenix Wing on there own Stratos to force its effect off.

The deck also has some very ingenious tech cards in Instant Fusion and Future Fusion. Future Fusion pitches a Zephyros and a Neos Alius for Escuradio which sets up a lot of different plays; it gives a free level 4 in Zephyros and the aforementioned combos with Bubbleman or it can backward toolbox Stratos and Bubbleman afterwards by bouncing Future Fusion for Zephyros and then playing it again by sending Stratos and Bubbleman for Absolute Zero. Then you can use Monster Reborn or The Warrior Returning alive to start comboing off. Instant Fusion is pretty obvious since it special summons the decks one possible target Karbonala Warrior for more XYZ summons. It’s also nice to note Karbonala is a warrior making it a possible material for both Blade Armor Ninja and Heroic Champion Excalibur.

The last thing of note in the deck is that it can fairly easily push its own life points below 1000 by using cards like A Hero Lives making No.C39 Utopia Ray even more live in this deck than a normal deck.

Hope that cleared things up at least a little bit! If you have any other questions or comments feel free to reply.
