Deck Profile: Metalfoes

A quick deck profile for Metalfoes.

Sorry for not posting on Monday, I was busy all weekend at PAX Prime (aka PAX West, bleh). I contemplated not making an article, but I instead decided I could at the very least post a small article about a deck I helped my friend build that he was going to use at PAX, but in the end there was no Yugioh at PAX so that backfired. Here’s the deck:

The Premise:

Overall, I would be inclined to say that this Metalfoes deck would be classified as a standard variant. It has some quirks, but as far as I’m concerned for the TCG and Metalfoes, I’ve designed this to work in the most standard fashion possible, with the added Kyle touch. Once the next set comes out though, Metalfoes will likely shift to different styled, far better, builds, so this style will probably be short lived.

The decks main mode of operations is lockdown. It attempts to create boards that are hard to break turn one using a slew of potential lockdown options including Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin, Cyber Dragon Infinity, Void Ogre Dragon, Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon and Mist Valley Apex Avian. The deck also has a pretty good reactionary game, since it has the potential to shoot out pretty big fields, but in general I’d say this build prefers going first.

Basic Plays:

I would consider the basic use of Metalfoes to be self explanatory. They have 1 and 8 scales, you make scales, you Pendulum summon stuff. In general, you attempt to use their effects as much as you can in order to get free advantage and as many Pendulum monsters in the extra as possible so you can Pendulum summon them all back and win the duel. That being said, I’ll save you the reading and myself the writing of that explanation and just talk about less intuitive, but still important plays that the other cards provide.

Gofu and Ultimaya:

As you may notice, this deck runs Ultimaya Tzolkin, and those knowledgeable of Ultimaya might say there are no level 5 monsters in my deck to make Tzolkin with using Gofu as the tuner, and that’s true except for one play using the only level 5 non-tuner monster in the deck, which happens to be hiding in the Extra Deck. Tzolkin requires two monsters, one tuner one non-tuner, that are both level 5 or higher and are both the same level to be summoned. This can be achieved in this deck using Blackwing – Gofu the Vague Shadow and the Fusion monsters Metalfoes Adamante. Adamante is a level 5 Fusion monster with no effect that uses 1 Metalfoes monster and 1 monster with less than 2500 ATK as Fusion material. The play requires 4 cards, but they’re all pretty lenient:

  • Any 2 Metalfoes monsters
    • Or 1 Metalfoes monster and 1 Metalfoes Fusion
  • 1 Blackwing – Gofu the Vague Shadow
  • 1 Spell or Trap that can be set face-down, or a 3rd Metalfoes monster.

This is how the play is performed:

  • Special Summon Gofu because you control no monsters.
  • Gofu’s effect activates summoning 2 level 1 tokens.
  • Activate a Metalfoes monster as a Pendulum Scale.
  • Use that Metalfoes Scale to destroy one of the tokens to set Metalfoes Fusion.
  • Use Metalfoes Fusion using the token and a Metalfoes monster as Fusion material to summon Metalfoes Adamante.
  • Special Summon Ultimaya Tzolkin using Gofu and Adamante.
  • Either set a card, or use an additional Metalfoes Pendulum scale to destroy a card to set a card.
  • The setting of a card will activate Ultimaya’s effect allowing you to summon ideally Void Ogre Dragon or Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon (Dependant on the scenario.
  • You can then also shuffle back Metalfoes Fusion to draw a card.

This will end with you having 1 to 2 scales, Ultimaya, a Stronk Synchro, a set Metalfoes card (probably Counter) or a set spell or trap and an additional card drawn plus whatever was already left in hand. The play can be expanded depending on what other cards you might have drawn.

Qliphort Mini-Engine:

The Qliphort min-engine is very simple. It firstly, provides easy access to the ever impressive Cyber Dragon Infinity. Secondly, it allows you an excuse to be running Summoner’s Art, giving you more access to the desirable Metalfoes monster, Metalfoes Volflame.

Like I said, the combo is very simple. It requires the following:

  • 1 Qliphort Scout or a Summoner’s Art.
  • 2 Metalfoes monsters, one an 8 scale and one a 1 scale.

Here’s how the combo works:

  • Activate Qliphort Scout as a Pendulum scale.
  • Use Scout’s effect paying 800 LP to search you deck for Qliphort Monolith.
  • Activate a Metalfoes monster as a Pendulum scale.
  • Use the Metalfoes scale’s effect to destroy Qliphort Scout, and set a card (most likely Counter).
  • Activate the other Metalfoes monster as a scale.
  • Pendulum summon Scout and Monolith,
  • Make Cyber Dragon Nova; Make Cyber Dragon Infinity.

That’s All Folks:

Like I said, this article will be rather short. As for explanations for the rest of the deck, I would say that most of it can be figured out with your best judgment as a duelist in combination with experience using the deck. Have fun dueling everyone!
