Kyle, you should totally go to the YCS on Saturday, but not to play; to cover it for the site!
You could maybe record some short interviews with an iPhone or something and then edit them into the podcast, or just interview some players who are performing well and ask them about how their deck works. You could even take some pictures and put together a gallery!
That would be incredibly interesting, and it could draw some interest for the podcast from your fellow Yu-Gi-Oh players if you guys all wear your YCGPodcast shirts and you have Kyle walking around with a notepad and a recorder interviewing people! Take off work, Kyle; when are you going to get to go to another YCS?!?
It’s too late to take off work now, so that’s a no go. I would’ve had to ask it off about a month or more ago, but thanks for the thought ^_^
As of now I work Friday/Saturday, so I won’t be anywhere near the YCS. I’ve tryin’ to help out my friends decks as much as I can though. Here’s hoping one of us tops!
What’s everybody running?
I could be wrong, and if I am it will be cleared up on the podcast I’m sure.
Matt’s running Lightsworns, Justen Wind-Ups and Joe Dark Worlds.
WOOOO my question was answered! Thanks so much guys!
This podcast made me think of something, and I’m wondering what your thoughts on it are. Both Mermail/Atlanteans and Spellbook/Prophecy are one archetype that supports a specific card type and another one that supports the other archetype. Do you think that what Konami is doing is releasing one archetype that’s kind locked in place so people without much creative deck-building talent can just run the deck Konami built for them while the other archetype is broader in its synergetic scope so that creative people can come up with cool ideas with it?
e.g. Prophecy cards only work with Spellbooks and thus your options for the deck you’re building are pretty limited, while Spellbooks work along with any spellcaster-oriented deck and you can easily take or leave any of the Spellbooks. This means that spellcasters, who have never been really great enough to compete with high-level decks, now have a lot of really good support and creative deck-builders will be able to come up with cool ideas with all these new cards.
Do you think Konami is trying to please two different demographics by releasing these new double archetypes and if so, do you like this new method they’re using?
Hi guys liked this podcast and it gave me a reason to look at my spare cards when I came across malefic truth dragon and thought came 2 me. Why has anyone tried to use malefics more often? But I also wanted to know can y’all post the link to the strategy page y’all use to come up with strategies
First part – People actually do run Malefics decks! There’s 2 or 3 people at our locals who frequent the deck and it regularly tops large events as well. The nature of the deck (in it’s most refined and competitive form) is a rather boring anti-meta deck though, and requires a very specific type of duelist to wield, so most people steer clear of it. That and it’s not a very fun deck to play with either.
Second part – I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you say “strategy page”. And in general, we come of up with a lot of out ideas on our own, or from the absorption of a lot of ideas, with no real culprit as to the main contributor.
