o man guys, you really don’t get nekroz lol. don’t take this the wrong way and i don’t mean to be condescending, i just want to clear a few things up about the deck, how it runs and what you’ll be seeing in the coming weeks. it’ll prolly make matt hate the deck more but justin, given your playstyle you’d prolly love nekroz
3 valk
3 brio
3 unicore
2 claus
1 decisive
1 trish
1 gungnir
2 shrit
1 dancer princess/archmage
1 djinn
3 manju
3 senju
3 preparation
2 book of eclipse
1 book of moon
2 kaleido mirror
2 exo mirror (its jus mirror in the tcg now xc)
3 cycle
this is the typical skeleton of the build, you don’t want to run 3 trish because smart players wont let you trish, trish is searchable and reusable from the gy, and its not too good against the mirror match.
ideally you want to summon manju/senju and bring out unicore with kaleido dumping arc and searching for clauso. you xyz into lavalval chain and use its eff to dump djinn to gy. use clauso to search for nekroz cycle, then use cycle to ritual the clauso from your gy, using the djinn in your gy. this way you start out with a djinn lock and if you have valk/gungnir/trish in hand, you can protect the clauso. this is part of the reason why lavalval chain is uber expensive right now.
the real strategy behind nekroz is about trying to keep brio as the last card you use each turn and knowing when to play valkyrus vs when to keep it in hand for its swift scarecrow eff. you ideally want to bring out valk and something else to make a swing at the opponent, then use valks eff to clear your field to keep you safe from being trish’ed and to draw 2 cards. you can then banish the ritual you used to bring out valk to search for another ritual. if you played right, you should have another valk in hand or unicore to add back the valk now in gy; this is where keeping brio as your last search is important.
a few other things of note, they changed the djinn ruling to match the ocg, so if your opponent takes your djinn summoned ritual, they still can’t special summon, because you the player, get the effect of djinn as long as the ritual is face up-it doesn’t matter who actually controls the ritual;so snatch steal doesn’t turn the lock against you anymore. i hope that makes sense.
book of eclipse is used to stop kycoo, dark law, djinn lock, reuse your manju/senjus, and can force a card into your opponents hand so you can trish.
kycoo, is crazy important against the deck and in the mirror match, since it stops valk, djinn and the ritual spells from getting their gy effects, and prevents exomirror.
you can only dump 1 monster from extra for kaleido so when you use it to bring out valk, you’re prolly dumping quasar to bring out valk and unicore, tho it isn’t ideal unless you’re going for game. you want to bring out valk using shrit from hand or using manju/senju on field and dancer/archmage.
one last thing, despite what you might hear, the exabeetle/quasar/shooting star combo is bad, very bad, don’t do it.
sorry it was so long but i hope this helps explain the deck a bit.
Do you think the days of slower formats are all but finished? Every set releases new faster stuff that does more and more for less investment. I miss the days of slower games where you have the opportunitt to play more and interact with your opponet. But here is a question that i fear is true. Do you believe yugioh is on the way out? Locals in my area are less than 50% of what they were, i see almost no new players or young players, how are things in your area and do u believe yugs is coming to an end?
Why do most people playing Nekroz have 3 Valkyrus? It seems not great to me, unless you run all of the effect monsters to tribute
It’s battle ending effect is its most important effect. It’s not summoned nearly as much as they use its in hand effect, so yes, it’s tribute effect is as you said “not great” but still really good though, just less relevant. It’s hand effect is pretty much the best battle phase hand trap in Yugioh ever.
