New Ideas: Birdman & Armageddon Knight

I love coming up with new ideas. I’m always stirring up new combos and plays in my head, no matter how awful or amazing they are in action to try to find “the next big thing”. At the time being my gaze has been set on Dark monsters and the Synchro and XYZs monsters that go with them. One of my newest ideas involves running Genex Ally Birdman with Armageddon Knight because they pull of some pretty sweet combos together and I thought I might share my ideas.

Birdman is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread for me right now. His effect brings a lot of versatility to almost any situation and I find that desirable. (I have the ability to draw awful in just about any deck and I can do it consistently, so I’m always looking for a card that can garner consistency within my deck) Similarly, Armageddon Knight is a seemingly docile card that sets up some equally versatile places by himself. Armageddon Knight is as Justen calls him a “Phantom Plus” since he doesn’t actually give you any advantage but sets you up for it in a very consistent way. When drawn together the two of them create a very versatile playbook of sorts for you to choose from, and most of the time the plays can set you up for your next turn too.

All the plays start with Normal Summoning Armageddon Knight. (Special Summoning him would be an added bonus though since he gets his effect whenever he’s summoned) There’s a whole slurry of really good cards to send with Armageddon Knight outside of the ones I mention here adding immensely to his versatility, so don’t forget that, but for this article I’m really only going to mention Destiny HERO – Malicious (a card that most people know) and Peten the Dark Clown (a long lost card that’s pretty much the same as Malicious, but a little different). There’s also one last lone combo card that works without Birdman and that’s Plaguespreader Zombie, which is practically a staple if your running Armageddon Knight since it easily does a Brionac or Gaia Knight play with one card, but that aside, let’s look at the other two.

Both combos are simple, they start with you sending one of the two mentioned cards to the graveyard with Armageddon Knight’s effect. Then, you return Armageddon Knight to the hand to special summon Birdman. (effectively recycling your Armageddon Knight) If you sent Malicious you can use his effect to summon another and Synchro with Mali and Birdman to summon Locomotion R-Genex; an incredibly powerful monster that takes control of the highest Level monster your opponent controls (forever). It’s also got 2500 ATK, which makes him a good beater in a tight spot too.

The other play is to send Peten the Dark Clown to the graveyard activating his effect. (which banishes the one Peten you just sent to the graveyard to summon another one from the deck, preferably in defense mode since it has very low attack) Next, return the Knight and summon Birdman. You now have two options, XYZ for 3 (probably Leviair since most Dark based decks can quickly stack up banish monsters like Birdman, Plaguespreader Zombie,  or even the Peten the Dark Clown you just banished to make this play happen) or Synchro for 6.

The last thing you can do is, instead of returning the Armageddon Knight to your hand for Birdman, you return either the Malicious or the Peten to your hand so that you can Synchro for 7. (Probably Black Rose Dragon or Scrap Archfiend) If your running a more heavy Destiny HERO build this could potentially be an effective way to get a D-Hero into you hand to activate Destiny Draw.

So basically, this one play can give you a bunch of options: Locomotion R-Genex, Scrap Archfiend, Black Rose Dragon, Brionac, and Leviair. (there’s a couple more un-noteworthy Synchro’s like Tempest Magician or Explosive Magician that you can summon [since Peten is a Spellcaster] but I won’t trouble you with mentioning all of these) It’s always good to have many options in a small amount of cards, and combined with even more combo inducing cards this can make a very versatile deck. To wrap things up here’s a decklist of a fun deck that I made based around this idea that’s actually pretty good and I think it’s a lot of fun. Tweak around with it and try it, it’s pretty cool.
