Quick update for the YCGpodcast.
Sorry, no weekly Monday article this week, I’ve (me being Kyle) been away all week so I didn’t have time to write anything, barely had time for homework. For the same reason there was no podcast this week, I thought I should keep all the people who come to the website in the loop as to what is going on.
In the next weeks we’ll be recording some podcasts, so look forward to some talk on the new ban list, the rules change (effective TODAY!), North American Nationals as well as Pendulum monsters! That’s a whole lot of fun topics in my opinion, so let’s hope we get you some good discussion.
For those unaware, here’s a rundown of the basics of the rules change that is effective today.
- The player going first in the duel no longer draws during their draw phase of their first turn.
- Each player can control their own field spell card and field spells are not destroyed when the opponent plays a field spell (you still can play a field spell over your own though).
Thanks for the update! Looking forward to the new articles and podcasts!
Do u think the 5 card rule hurts lightsworn alot?
In my opinion I would say that it actually benefits Lightsworns literally only because you will more often go first with the new rule running Lightsworns than you would with the old rules. Undoubtedly, I still want to go first even if I only get 5 cards because being able to make my plays and get graveyard setup without Trap interference is too good to pass up; so given the opportunity, I will always choose to go first. Also, with the new rule change, a lot of people will be choosing to go second, which now gives a Lightsworn player an additional way to go first that wasn’t present before the rules change.
The only real disadvantage is that now a Lightsworn player has a lesser chance of opening a power Spell Card, which is mighty unfortunate. I suppose we’ll see in the future if the trade off is worth it for sure. Right now though i lean towards “yes it is”.
Why do you think it showed so poor at nats? Only 2 in top-64 that im aware of. With geargia the number 1 deck i find that odd ive always slapped around geargia with LS
I don’t think Lightsworns are tier 1, maybe a solid teir 2, and they’re really easy to side against, so as long as the opponent is knowledgeable of how to play against the deck and has a good side for it they should do fine if not easily win unless the Lightsworn player opens ideally and also goes first.
It may also be too broad a generalization, but I think how good a Lightsworn player does at a large event can be closely correlated with the amount of matches they were able to go first off the die roll since the deck can usually win if it goes first and mills turn one. It’s very similar to Dark Worlds, which is an extremely powerful deck capable of blowing out opponents in seemingly unfair fashion, but for some reason unable to top. Both have overpowered plays when going first, but struggle to play into appropriately set up fields and also lose to singular cards in the side deck unless they have MST. In the future I would predict it go to the same realm as Dark Worlds eventually, where only a select few players play it and nobody pays the deck credence.
Last thing, I don’t think Lightsworn will ever be highly competitive until they have either an easily searchable out to floodgate cards or a millable card to deal with back row. Or maybe if they made some outrageously broken Lightsworn support card that could work too.
Oh btw u want 3 ultra 1st ed recharge? Ive got an extra set
Thanks for the offer, but I’m good 🙂
