Now that Call of the Haunted is at 3 I’ve been making up some random ideas for a deck that could possibly utilize 3 copies. (not counting Inzectors ’cause that deck isn’t that fun) One of the more fun ideas was a HERO build were I essentially try to make massive advantage using cards like Salvage, Fusion Recovery and Call of the Haunted in order to make quick and easy Fusion Summons and XYZ Summons. Bear in mind these are only theory and could as well flop in real life.
There’s three HERO monsters that I want to bring back with Call of the Haunted. First, the obvious is Elemental HERO Stratos. He’ll get his effect even if Call gets destroyed plus it facilitates random Blade Armor Ninja OTKs. (If you don’t know what that is go look at my previous article about Bubbleman, to which I may likely reference faintly) That and it makes really easy advantage even if you don’t want to OTK, or maybe even you could destroy some spells and traps with his hilarious other effect. (I love catching people off guard with his s/t destruction effect)
The next two monsters you want to bring back kind of go together and they are Elemental HERO Ocean and Woodsman. Both of them have an effect that activates during your Standby Phase, which makes it relatively hard to pull off since you have to protect them for a turn to get it to activate. If you didn’t already get it, that’s where Call of the Haunted comes in; just us Call during your opponent’s End Phase and revive one of them so you can get their effect during your Standby Phase. I’m not gonna lie, I don’t really care about Woodsman(although I know Matt loves him), I just figured I’d give him a nod since his effect works really nicely for these combos as well, but for the most part I’ll be focused on Ocean. Here’s Ocean’s effect:
Once per turn, during your Standby Phase: Target 1 “HERO” monster on your side of the field or in your Graveyard; add that target to your hand.
In short, if you can ever pull off his effect you go plus 1, gaining 1 HERO monster from your Graveyard. You can also use his effect to bounce himself or a Stratos to either summon Stratos again in the case of Stratos or have a floating Call of the Haunted if you bounce Ocean, which isn’t awful if you have Zephyros in grave or maybe you’re running Magic Planter; just some more ideas to think about. But back to the point, by adding back a HERO you can make really easy XYZ plays that technically only costed a card and if you’re using Stratos you can use 1 Call of the Haunted to gain 1 Rank 4 and 1 HERO in hand and a Call of the Haunted with no monster attached to it on board, which is pretty good for just 1 Call of the Haunted to start with. Also, when combined with the new rising star Elemental HERO Bubbleman, you can make even quicker XYZ plays and open the door to hopefully more frequent OTK conditions.
After thinking of this I next immediately noticed was both Bubbleman and Ocean are targets for Salvage. If you didn’t know Salvage is a Normal Spell card that adds two 1500 ATK or less Water monsters from your Graveyard to your hand. Once again, similar to Call of the Haunted, Salvage can make an easy 1 card Rank 4 using these two cards. If you have 1 Bubbleman and either a 2nd Bubbleman or an Ocean in the Graveyard you can add them to hand with Salvage, then Normal Summon Ocean and then Special Bubbleman. (assuming you have no other monsters in hand of course) The versatility of Salvage goes even further if you consider cards like King of the Swamp. Here’s his effect:
You can substitute this card for any 1 Fusion Material Monster. When you do this, the other Fusion Material Monster(s) must be the correct one(s). Discard this card from your hand to the Graveyard; add 1 “Polymerization” from your Deck to your hand.
King of the Swamp is a level 3, Water, Aqua monster with 500 ATK and 1100 DEF. He’s also a target for Salvage. Considering he adds Polymerization’s to your hand, he already has a pretty nice ft into E-HERO decks. Let’s say in the aforementioned combo that you already have a monster in hand so if you play Salvage adding a Bubbleman and another monster, you’ll never be able to Special Summon the Bubbleman because you wont be able to go down to no cards in hand. King of the Swamp makes an interesting remedy to this. If you already have a monster in hand, you can add King and Bubbleman, then discard King to add a Polymerization to your hand. If you only had 1 other monster in hand now you can summon it, set Poly, then Special Bubbleman or you can remove a larger excess of monsters from you hand by fusing them together for something cool like Elemental HERO Absolute Zero, a monster that is more than likely to come out with all these Water Attribute HEROs in you deck.
Of the cards I mentioned earlier the last is Fusion Recovery; re-released as a common again in Ra Yellow Mega Pack I have about 1 bazillion of them now. Fusion Recovery adds 1 Polymerization and 1 monster that was used as Fusion Material from your Graveyard to your hand. It is very similar to Salvage in that it adds 2 cards from your Graveyard to hand, the difference comes with the monsters you can add. The most notable monster of them would be Elemental HERO Stratos. Think about this, with a Stratos and a Polymerization in hand that’s essentially any of the newest E-HERO fusion monsters of choice. Just Normal Summon Stratos and add the other monster you want to Fusion with to your hand then Polymerize them together. That makes activating a Fusion Recovery almost the same as summoning 1 Fusion Monster, a 1 for 1. In general the best Fusion Monster that E-HEROs have is Absolute Zero when you’re not banishing any monsters (or else it would be Elemental HERO the Shining), and in these case you aren’t making Zero the best option especially since he gains attack for each other Water monster on the field and with Bubbleman and Ocean you can easily summon extras making boosting Absolute Zero’s attack a breeze.
The last of the ideas is a just a cool way to try to round out the deck. When thinking of all this I really wanted to incorporate the best parts of my HERO Beat deck into it as well, but I didn’t want to make it a stun deck. I wanted to be able to recycle cards with The Shining, which meant I needed to run Light attribute monster, but Elemental HERO Neos Alius really would bring nothing to the deck. I also wanted to utilize Miracle Fusion because it is an extremely powerful card except I didn’t want to use it to summon Absolute Zero since it would drain my resources for cards like Call of the Haunted, Salvage and Fusion Recovery. This drove me to consider using a card that I’ve seen people use before in HERO decks a card that adds even more versatility to HEROs. Elemental HERO Captain Gold almost perfectly fit the bill; he gets Light monsters into the Graveyard to make Miracle Fusions live as well as adds a very powerful aggro option with the use of Skyscraper.
As always, have fun! Also input is appreciated.
I just knew you were going to mention the play with KOTS, the very expensive common.
Have you got any plans for Masked Hero Acid, like Absolute Zero>MaskChange> Masked hero Acid.
I like Acid, but I hate losing cards as quickly as I’d have to to make plays with Acid.
I’m liking Masked HERO Daian a lot more ’cause he spawns card advantage, unfortunately the best Earth HEROs are Infernal Gainer and Clayman, not great prospects. I’m probably going to try to make some ideas with Clayman.
You’re forgetting about Prisma, Wildheart, Woodsman and if you’re desperate, Bladedge.
Oh and I’ll give you a little inspiration for Clayman, examine the similarities between him and gem-kinghts and see what he gives access to.
Prisma is a light monster and his attribute doesn’t change with his effect, or that’d be awesome.
I’m not sure where you’re going with the Gem-Knight thing. All I can think of is running Rescue Rabbit with Clayman and that’s gross.
All I’m saying is clayman would give access to miracle fusion and super poly- arguably the two best fusion cards in the game. And stuff with gem merchant. But even those plays aren’t too great.
You clayman rabbit idea could work, you could XYZ into BAN and do 4400.
Just a random HERO thought: Clayman can be brought out M-X Saber Invoker. Goes for easy Dian.
