When I looked at the new Return of the Duelist pack, I was kind of looking for something that no one else noticed because I always think it’s funner to use the “bad” deck that no one cares about and do lots of cool things with it. Chronomalys are first off, really ugly, and secondly not so straight forward on their goals; so I figured everyone would pretty much steer clear of them and for the most part I was right. The stage was set for me to take a closer look.
Deck Profile: Volcanic XYZ
‘Cause I said I would, here’s a profile of my Volcanic deck. The deck is also still in the testing phases so it’s not totally complete, keep that I mind. The deck is based around some quick rank 4 XYZ as well as the basic Volcanic business. If you don’t know about the basic Volcanic monsters and the effects I point your towards this link: [HERE] That’s a link to my old article about the basic Volcanic engine, so check it out.
Blackwings and Rank 6
First off, congrats to Tyler Tabman for getting first at the North American Nationals (or WCQ) with Wind-Ups. He’s been winning a lot lately so also congratulations on essentially proving yourself to the world. But, away from that on to something totally different: Blackwings. Blackwings are kind of under-appreciated, especially in America, since they’ve taken a lot of hits on the banlist and they never perform at any events. (while they obviously aren’t the best it’s also due to sheer lack of play) I’ve taken a look back at them as another archetype that can essentially just spawn level 6 monsters from nowhere, which to me was a perfect indicator of a deck that can make rank 6 XYZ.
Destiny HEROs and Rank 6
With some experimentation I’ve been trying to create a deck that could easily summon Photon Strike Bounzer using a deck that nobody had thought of yet because I found Strike Bounzer to be an extremely powerful and also under-used card in the game, and since all the standard Rank 6 summoning decks are pretty boring and Konami generated (aka Hieratics) I was looking for old archetype specifically. Also, after testing a couple of older decks I’d found that a field of both Stardust Dragon and Strike Bounzer creates a very powerful lockdown so I narrowed my goals towards this. Through all of this I’ve slowly gravitated towards one archetype and that is Destiny HEROs.
Gishki’s Part 1 – Gishki Core – GenForce through HA5
The highlighted will be discussed at length in the current article. You should at least be familiar with the ritual monsters and the ritual spell listed.
Effect Monsters: Gishki Diviner, Gishki Beast, Gishki Abyss, Gishki Vanity, Gishki Marker, Gishki Chain, Gishki Ariel, Gishki Shadow.
Ritual Monsters: Evigishki Mind Augus, Evigishki Soul Ogre
Ritual Spells: Gishki Aquamirror
Gaining Advantage
Each Gishki monster, with the exception of Vanity, attempts to fetch cards to your hand in some way. You can easily rate the ones that will be most useful to you based on how quickly and accurately they can perform their effect.
“Alive HERO”
Today is a far more direct article tan normal, I’ll just be responding to LegendaryChevralier’s comment on the recent Dragon Podcast:
Also can you give me some more infomation on that “alive hero” deck you were talking about? It seems really interesting and surprisingly similar to what I’ve been contemplating.
I’ll just be giving a little insight into the deck from my perspective as well as a pretty standard (as far as I know) decklist for the deck in Japan at the time being.
Justen’s Portland Regional Report (UPDATED)
So to start things off…
The only really noteworthy thing that happened on Thursday is I found out that the event would cap off at around 140 people due to the size of the shop in question after reading a post by Mike from Team Overload’s blog. Thanks to him I dodged a bullet and was able to do more research and tell everyone coming with me to the event to preregister to guarantee ourselves a spot. I owe you one dude! It turns out the event was populated by lots of familiar faces from Washington.

Portland Oregon Regionals Report
Hey, ‘sup it’s me Kyle, back from the Portland Regionals this Saturday. Quite the fun day I do have to say, it felt like I was on vacation for a whole week! Me, Matt, Justen and 4 others (Nate, Kegan, Tyler, Joe and Seth) all headed down to Seth’s house in Tacoma (about a 3 hour drive from Portland, where the Regionals where held) on Friday night and arrived around 12 or 1, I wasn’t totally sure when stayed up way to late then went to bed. The next morning we left at 7 and arrived at the location around 9:30, 30 minutes before the event started. Lucky for use we preregistered for the tournament and made it in, while a whole slew of people did not (even some people from our own card shop). As one of the judges told me, there where around 110 preregistered duelists out of the 152 maximum entry for the tourney, so not many walk-ins made it into the tournament.
