Priority is Gone kinda

Over at the Yugioh Official Site and the Yugioh Blog, history was made in the TCG with a change in the way Player Priority is handled. Many of you are familiar with the old way. Here’s an example if you’re not:

The turn player special summons Chaos Sorcerer successfully. As the turn player, they have priority to activate the first card or card effect in response to this event. They activate the Ignition Effect of Chaos Sorcerer and target their opponent’s monster. Now, finally, the opponent has the ability to respond with cards like Torrential Tribute, Book of Moon,  Bottomless Trap Hole, etc.

The old Priority allowed you to activate any monster’s Ignition Effect when a monster was summoned, the new priority does not. As the turn player YOU STILL HAVE PRIORITY to activate appropriate cards and effects when a monster is summoned. For example, one can still “call priority” to activate spell or trap cards when you summon your own monster. You still have access to all Spell Speed 2 and 3 Spells and Traps, as well as monster’s quick-effects as those are classified as Spell Speed 2.

The TCG and the OCG are now more similar in terms of game mechanics. The game, as a whole, becomes a little more stable for us as cards like Wind-Up Zenmaighty, Rescue Rabit, and Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning have a fair and punishable aspect to them.

New Ideas: Lightray Sorcerer

Photobucket

As I’ve said on the podcast I’ve been trying to make a lot of ideas to effectively use the Lightray monsters. I haven’t really found any success in most of the ones requiring a lot of Light monsters in the grave so I’ve decided to move on to Lightray Sorcerer. If you don’t already know about ‘im he’s pretty much a the same as Chaos Sorcerer just a little different. Pretty much all you need to make it work is 3 Banish Light monsters. Luckily, it’s not like Dark Armed Dragon requiring an exact amount of monsters, so anything above 3 will also be fine. Today is my first look at some ideas with the card, I’ve got some more but I figured this article would be huge if I said all of them, so i’ll probably be cutting this one into 2 parts.

Justen’s Portland Regional Report (UPDATED)

So to start things off…

The only really noteworthy thing that happened on Thursday is I found out that the event would cap off at around 140 people due to the size of the shop in question after reading a post by Mike from Team Overload’s blog. Thanks to him I dodged a bullet and was able to do more research and tell everyone coming with me to the event to preregister to guarantee ourselves a spot. I owe you one dude! It turns out the event was populated by lots of familiar faces from Washington.

Portland Oregon Regionals Report

Hey, ‘sup it’s me Kyle, back from the Portland Regionals this Saturday. Quite the fun day I do have to say, it felt like I was on vacation for a whole week! Me, Matt, Justen and 4 others (Nate, Kegan, Tyler, Joe and Seth) all headed down to Seth’s house in Tacoma (about a 3 hour drive from Portland, where the Regionals where held) on Friday night and arrived around 12 or 1, I wasn’t totally sure when stayed up way to late then went to bed. The next morning we left at 7 and arrived at the location around 9:30, 30 minutes before the event started. Lucky for use we preregistered for the tournament and made it in, while a whole slew of people did not (even some people from our own card shop). As one of the judges told me, there where around 110 preregistered duelists out of the 152 maximum entry for the tourney, so not many walk-ins made it into the tournament.
