Banlist Talk: Sinister Serpent

Photobucket
The next card is a bit more controversial. Initially I was pretty skeptical of anybody who told me Sinister Serpent should come back, but in all honesty when I look intently at the card it’s not all that great.

Card Review: Tsukuyomi

Photobucket
Since the banlist is out and all, I figured a good way to start that off would be to talk about the new limiting of Tsukuyomi. A card that has been banned for what seems like forever. In all honesty, this card should probably have been brought back ages ago because it is incredibly weak and outclassed in many ways by cards that already exist.

Banlist Talk: Heavy Storm

Photobucket
There’s always some fuss when banlist season comes around about Heavy Storm. Flurries of people think it needs to get banned while others think it’s necessary for the game. I sit in the needs to get banned category because I hold that this card is a huge problem. Read more to find out why and listen to me rant a little.

Card Review: The Transmigration Prophecy

Photobucket
Here’s just a quick article that’s an off-shoot of my Volcanic deck profile. In that deck I’m maining a copy of the Transmigration Prophecy and over the past few weeks it has gone over and beyond my expectations as a powerful asset in the deck.

Deck Profile: Volcanic XYZ

‘Cause I said I would, here’s a profile of my Volcanic deck. The deck is also still in the testing phases so it’s not totally complete, keep that I mind. The deck is based around some quick rank 4 XYZ as well as the basic Volcanic business. If you don’t know about the basic Volcanic monsters and the effects I point your towards this link: [HERE] That’s a link to my old article about the basic Volcanic engine, so check it out.

Card Review: Gravekeeper’s Spy

PhotobucketAltogether the reason for this article is pretty random. I was just thinking the other day that I’d really like a card that was kind of like Tour Guide except for Rank 4’s. Now, Gravekeeper’s spy isn’t that by any means, but the thought got me looking at cards like this and I thought it deserved a bit more of the lime light than it’s getting right now. It also became even more relevant when Brian Hines got top 8 with a deck running a small Spy engine at Nationals. For this weeks article I’ll just be going over some of the advantages of trying out Gravekeeper’s Spy again after its long absence from the metagame.

Fun Gemini Deck

So, as I said on the Gemini Podcast, I might be posting up the fun Gemini Deck that I made while researching for the cast… well here it is is I guess. I had a lot of fun with this deck, but as a preface I’m pretty sure this deck wont be able to compete at competitive levels. (although I’ve never tested it there, so who knows right?) The deck explores some totally different playing styles than normal Yugioh and I felt it was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale format.

No article this week, kinda…

Ya, so no article this week, I’ve been busy and I’ll be gone all this week camping as well! I said so on the podcast, but it’s not up yet or I’d quote myself. Other than that, I thought this was an interesting bit of news; the person who got first at the Japanese Nationals ran Alive HERO. Pretty awesome! He (or maybe she? the Duelist’s name is Chami) will also be alongside there other representative “Chariot” running Offering Machina Gadget. You can check it out Shriek here: [LINK] I’ve got the guys decklist right here for all those who would rather stay here.

Blackwings and Rank 6

First off, congrats to Tyler Tabman for getting first at the North American Nationals (or WCQ) with Wind-Ups. He’s been winning a lot lately so also congratulations on essentially proving yourself to the world. But, away from that on to something totally different: Blackwings. Blackwings are kind of under-appreciated, especially in America, since they’ve taken a lot of hits on the banlist and they never perform at any events. (while they obviously aren’t the best it’s also due to sheer lack of play) I’ve taken a look back at them as another archetype that can essentially just spawn level 6 monsters from nowhere, which to me was a perfect indicator of a deck that can make rank 6 XYZ.

Destiny HEROs and Rank 6

Photobucket With some experimentation I’ve been trying to create a deck that could easily summon Photon Strike Bounzer using a deck that nobody had thought of yet  because I found Strike Bounzer to be an extremely powerful and also under-used card in the game, and since all the standard Rank 6 summoning decks are pretty boring and Konami generated (aka Hieratics) I was looking for old archetype specifically. Also, after testing a couple of older decks I’d found that a field of both Stardust Dragon and Strike Bounzer creates a very powerful lockdown so I narrowed my goals towards this. Through all of this I’ve slowly gravitated towards one archetype and that is Destiny HEROs.
